Deck - Gin Rummy there is played with a single deck of cards. If a player picked up a card you need or discards it while it is not your turn, you will not be able to pick it anytime soon. In this case, you should reconsider the melds in your hand and maybe pass on some of your options so as not wait for a card that might not show up again.
Drawing - Drawing the right cards when playing online Gin Rummy is the number one skill that affects the outcome of the game.
When you draw a card at the beginning of the game, it is advisable that you pick a card from the stock pile rather then the discard pile so that your opponents will find it difficult to keep track of the cards in your hand. Keeping the cards in your hand a secret as long as possible will prove to be worthwhile. Since the cards on top of the discard pile are the cards that your online Rummy opponents do not need, when drawing a card from the stock pile, you might be preventing them from receiving cards that help them form melds.
Discard - Discarding the right cards should not be taken lightly. When discarding cards, your first priority is to rid your hand of the cards that are of no use to you. Moreover, you should throw away cards that are of no use to your online Rummy opponent by simply noting which cards your opponents discard.
Most players tend to discard high-value cards in their hand to reduce the deadwood count in their hand. In this case taking advantage of this strategy could prove to be helpful by forming melds of higher cards. You will have an easier time picking them up from the discard pile.
High\Low Draws - Since a standard Gin Rummy game ends about half way through the deck, it is best to draw high-value cards at the beginning of the game, in the hopes of obtaining the matching cards during the game. When nearing the end of the round you are advised to throw away the high-value cards that assemble your deadwood, by either replacing them with low-value cards from the discard pile or by taking your chances by drawing from the stock pile.
*Note- If you suspect that your online Rummy opponent is about to knock or gin, you want to pick up a low-value from the discard pile and discard a high-value card, to reduce the total count of your deadwood.
Knock - During a single table tournament, it is best to catch your online Rummy opponents off guard by accumulating points by knocking, rather than waiting for a Gin. In Quick Games and Single Tourney’s alike, it is best to knock early during the game, to avoid the risk of undercut.
If you have achieved a significant advantage over your opponents in previous rounds of a multi-round game, it’s best not to take any risks. Calculate your moves in a manner that will help to maintain the current status quo.
Forming Melds - When forming melds you should emphasis the four-card sets, rather than consecutive melds. In this way you are preventing your online Rummy opponents from laying off their deadwood by attaching it to your meld.
Try to draw and discard cards in a manner that will provide you with a lot of opportunities to complete pairs into melds. For example: the unmelded cards in your hand are:

,
,
. Discarding the
will leave you with more opportunities to meld the rest of the cards.
